Youth Swimming Lessons

Youth Swimming Lessons

PURPOSE:

Our program strives to create a safe and fun aquatic environment in an effort to teach beginner to advanced swimming skills while also inspiring a growing love of swimming.

OBJECTIVE:

The YWCA Gettysburg Swimming Program offers a variety of classes for youth from the age of 6 months to 14 years!  Children between the ages of 6 months and three years have an opportunity to become comfortable in the water while bonding with a parent in the Aqua Babies and Aqua Tots classes.  Children between the ages of 3 and 1st grade learn the basics of swimming with an instructor in small groups in the TOPSS program.  Youth in 2nd grade through age 14 learn more advanced strokes and techniques, all while having a great time with their peers in the Swim School program.  Age-appropriate swimming and boating safety skills are introduced to all TOPSS and Swim School students.

There will be no class on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

  • Staff registration opens on Wednesday, August 16, 2023
  • YWCA Member registration opens on Wednesday, August 23, 2023
  • Non-Member and Insurance Member registration opens on Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Aqua Babies & Aqua Tots

This class provides a wonderful bonding experience for an adult and child.  Under the direction of the instructor, the adult learns the proper way to hold a child in the water and teaches beginning swimming and safety skills.  The mixture of songs, rhymes, and toys helps the children associate pool time with fun!  The adult accompanying the child may be a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, or a family friend, and will accompany the child in the water.

This class is for children between the ages of six months and three years.

  • Staff registration opens on Wednesday, November 1, 2023
  • YWCA Member registration opens on Thursday, November 2, 2023
  • Non-member and Insurance Member registration opens on Friday, November 3, 2023

Registration will close for all classes on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 7 p.m.
